Und nun, die Antwort auf die Fragen: „Was ist rohe Gewalt?“ und „Was ist so richtig aero(dynmaisch)? Eine Plastikbüchse am Lenker und offenes Hemd und Jacket.

Some of us remember the good ol’ days of watching cartoons and spotting the bike of our dreams during the commercial breaks. Bike commercials aren’t nearly as popular anymore, but that doesn’t stop us from fondly looking back on our favorites. Whether these ads inspire some serious nostalgia or just a few laughs, let’s go back in time for a look at the best bike and bike-themed commercials over the past four decades.

 

1975 Raw Power Bicycle Handlebar Attachment Commercial
The Takeaway: “It fits on most bicycles and makes the sound of… RAW POWER!“

1981 Huffy Aerowind Bicycle Commercial
The Takeaway: Riding in aviator shades is ultra-aero—and so are doves.

1980s French ‚Roadman‘, Bridgestone Bicycle Commercial
The Takeaway: A bike’s tires clearly affect its ability to play sweet beats.

1980s Murray Street Machine Bicycle Commercial
The Takeaway: Murray was ahead of its time with a girl crushing a bike race against a Star Trek-style beam-down.

1980s Huffy Bikes Stu Thomsen Model Commercial
The Takeaway: Stu Thomsen was the man, but that mustache is not selling anyone on a Huffy.

1990s Canadian Tire Bicycle Commercial
The Takeaway: We would have pooled out money and bought this kid a bike if his dad didn’t. “I slept, ate, lived, and breathed that bike…” You’ve got to admit, that’s just plain adorable.

2008 Stella Artois
The Takeaway: Okay, so this one isn’t exactly advertising a bike. But it gets points for the cool depiction of vintage cyclists—and the nod to the perfect post-ride brew.

2013 Canadian Tire Bicycle Commercial
The Takeaway: The 2000s really took cycling advertising downhill—this bike gang is a far cry from the prairie commercial 20 years earlier! “Lock your doors, it ain’t safe no more… Come ride with us.”

2014 New Belgium Fat Tire Ale
The Takeaway: This is another beer advertisement that pays homage to the awesomeness of bikes—especially those ridden in super-cool events, like Bilenky Junkyard ‘Cross.
